Today I reconsolidated the arrangement of remaining living flowers Adrian gave me for our anniversary. As I was nonchalantly throwing away the wilted ones from the bunch, Butterfly girl ran to the garbage and became very sad. She asked why we were just throwing them out and made little voices for each one commentating what they'd say in her vivid imagination. I explained that they had to go back to the ground to make new flowers. It caught me off guard to see her reverence as I was reminded they were once living. Her simple act of compassion only a child could possibly grasp reminded me of my own childhood connection with nature. It is lovely when our children are able to teach us and make us more conscious.

Tutorial: Homemade Fresh Squeezed Lemonade

This recipe yields about 6-8 tall glasses poured over ice.

Bring 3/4 c Sugar and 3/4 c water to rolling boil to make syrup.

Squeeze 4 Lemons to extract fresh juice.

After squeezing lemons, throw them in pot with 1 c water, bring to boil

Pour lemon water into syrup and mix with 2-3 c more ice cold water & mix well.

Pour over ice and enjoy

Add a scoop of Rasberry Frozen Yogurt to make homemade pink lemonade.

The most fabulous part of this recipe is you can creatively alter depending on mood. To change flavor add additional lemons or squeeze limes, oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, pour some cranberry juice, you get the idea.

Happy Birthday Aunt Jamie!!!

How appropriate that Butterfly's first day of preschool happens to fall on my Sister Jamie's Birthday! Jamie is a passionate Teacher on the East coast. She encourages Butterfly and I with teaching inspiration. She also has given us many educational and enriching gifts. So, in honor of Aunt Jamie, here is our first school day story...

I am up until the wee hours of the morning, processing my emotions. My attitude is conscious as I direct my thoughts to positive and away from completely freaking out. I love change but whoa, this is my kid. I am not in control. I am learning how to let go in baby steps and trust other parents and adults with my child! Breathe. I stay up late re-reading the bazillion page manual including philosophy and necessary paperwork. Our bag is packed, outfit ready, earthquake supplies packed, etc.

Butterfly preschooler!

This morning, we sing our 'Good Morning Song'. Butterfly is smiling and cheering, "Today I get to go to school". We wait in line outside school and Butterfly is immediately friendly with the other children. When it's morning circle time, all the parents are supposed to sit behind their child to sing songs and send them off with a kiss. Adrian and I would have loved that opportunity if Butterfly didn't race across the room away from us so she could sit right beside her Teacher! She held another little girls hand and was just beaming. Adrian and I held each other! Before we knew it, she was proudly waving bye and off with the other kids. Adrian and I were at a loss of what to do. I think I ran out of school trying to fight back tears and he chased me saying we could hang out, go for a walk and spy. Ha! We flocked to a table outdoors where other newbie parents were experiencing the same feelings. None of our children cried or ran back to us and we were all not sure how to handle that. Of course we were grateful they all felt so safe and excited.

Emotional Mama Transition

We finally left to get our TB test so we can volunteer. Then went home, called my BFF to cope. Arrived at school almost an hour early and walked around park, okay spied a little. We saw our little girl confidently playing and felt such joy and gratitude. We gave her flowers and a chocolate donut with sprinkles and she took a 2 hour nap when we came home!

Then.... I got a call that our highly anticipated nephew was born today! He is healthy and adorable! He is on the East coast so we'll have to wait to see him. Happy Birthday to you Baby and little Sister Jamie! Congratulations to Butterfly for being an independent leader at her first day of school. What a BIG, HAPPY day!

Mexican Wedding Cakes (Russian Tea Cakes, Snowballs)

These delightful treats are a snap to make and disappear quickly. I modified this recipe by omitting nuts (experimenting with allergy free snacks for Butterfly's preschool). Also, used 3/4 tsp of Vanilla and 1/4 tsp Almond Extract. Rolled the balls in powdered sugar when they were still warm from oven and rolled again once they were cool.

Butterfly and I made half to keep and half to give to our friendly credit union banker. They'd be awesome served at a shower, wedding, birthday or holiday party. My husband thought they were just perfect with coffee!

Homemade Creamy Lemon Chicken Soup

Holy Yummers! Just made a homemade soup improvising the recipe as I went along.... turned out DELICIOUS. Adrian (Mr. Picky) loved it! We'll be making this one again and again!!!

Cream of Lemon Chix Soup:

In large soup pot, saute (on lowest setting) cut up pieces of chix breast in Organic Extra Virgin Coconut oil, O. Sesame oil, Extra Virgin Olive oil.

Throw in small cut up pieces of garlic (used about half but can use the whole thing easily.)

Throw in chopped white onion.

Stir and when chix starts to turn white add water.

Other random stuff to put in...

Pureed a can of pink beans in blender (shhh)

Frozen green peas (next time will puree them too)

Left over roasted red potatoes

A packet of chix noodle soup

3 lg. chopped carrots

zest of 2 lemons and squeezed all it's juice.

4 generous glasses of Chardonnay

about 1 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

seasoned with tons of dill, italian seasonings, old bay seasoning, lemon pepper, adobo, 3 packets of sazon (orange by goya spanish seasoning), pinch of sea salt and a bay leaf

Made garlic rolls to go with but tomorrow we'll have it again and I'll make cornbread. (Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free cornbread mix). A fresh salad is a light addition to this meal since the soup is filling. Hey, corn would be another great thing to throw in soup next time or whatever the heck you're in the mood for. This could easily be modified to vegetarian. The wine, cream, lemon combo is what made it.

48 Hour Update!

I posted an entry a few days ago about Butterfly doing Japa meditation. She concentrated on manifesting a YELLOW SLEEPING BEAUTY DRESS. We were shopping exactly 48 hours later with our friend whom we call 'Nana Joan'. As we walked into the Disney store Butterfly exclaimed, "Mom, there's the dress I wished for". I told her maybe she would get it for Christmas but we were there to get a gift for her friend. Low and behold, Nana Joan purchased this gorgeous dress (a little big so she can grow into) and surprised Butterfly!!! Thank you for being such a great family friend Nana! We love you and you always do so much for everyone, including us! Butterfly said, "See Mommy, dreams do come true." I guess she is right!

Mom and Dad's Surprise GIFT

A package came in the mail for Butterfly from my parents. We can't wait for their Winter visit in December. My folks are driving their RV across country and staying here for 3 months!!! YIPPIE!!! Audrey was soooo excited to get a new princess bathing suit and magic coloring book from them. There was also a BIG surprise.... a card with Butterfly's entire annual tuition for preschool. I teared up from their generous gift and reading the thoughtful card. My Mom recalled sewing me special outfits for my first year of nursery school. I so appreciate her choice in sending me to a co-op and all her involvement with our growing up. I remember those beautiful handmade dresses she took pride and effort in creating. I also remember both parents at my nursery school. I was proud to show my Dad I could hammer a nail in the wooden toy set and of course my Mom was extremely involved making me feel safe to explore and develop social friendships. My experience influenced our decision to send Butterfly to a co-op preschool. We can offer the same security of gaining independence at her own pace while knowing we're close. Butterfly asked why I was crying. I told her Grandma and Grandpa care so much about her they sent her money for her to go to school. She said, "Whoa, that's a lot of money!"

Another funny bedtime story...

We go to a UNITY church where they have a children's play "school". Miss Kathy is the "teacher". Butterfly adores Miss Kathy. While trying to get Butterfly settled in her bed, she asked if she could go to Miss Kathy's 'tomorrow?'. I explained that we would go on Sunday. After reflecting on this for a while she asked, "Did Grandma and Grandpa send them the money?" I laughed and said church "school" was taken care of. She said, "Okay, I can go." THANK YOU MOM AND DAD for such a generous and meaningful gift!

Thoughts on GOD...

Butterfly has been talking a lot about GOD lately. This morning I asked her who God was. She responded...

"God is um, she makes our hearts feel better and lives in it".

The other day she wanted to do Japa meditation along with Adrian and I. She asked why we were doing it (repeating the sound 'Ahhhhh'). I explained it helps us connect with Spirit. We can focus on feelings of peace and gratefulness or manifest something we'd like to attract. When we did it again she declared she'd like to manifest a yellow (Belle) Beauty dress and closed her eyes in deep concentration sitting like a precious Buddha.

That night, before bed while saying our blessing/gratitude prayers, Butterfly realized "the god" forgot to bring her the Belle Beauty dress. I explained that sometimes we have to have patience in Divine timing. She said, "But I can't see the god, I can't see her flying all around with her beautiful wings." (Just love my magical girls interpretation.) I told her GOD lives everywhere in the air, trees, the water, our dogs, and even in her heart. She got a whimsical look on her dramatic little face and sighed while touching her heart. Then she replied, "I love her the God, and if God doesn't bring me the dress, Mita will!" (Mamita is her Grandma who just spoiled her rotten on our vacation in Florida. I tried not to burst out laughing while kissing Butterfly goodnight. What can one say to that type of optimism and faith?)

Toddler Sense

What to do when you're toddler doesn't want to eat the healthy snacks you provide? 'And SNAP, the jobs a game.'

My toddler asks for CHOCOLATE all the time. I have no idea where she got this passion (guilty). Lately when I offer her carrots and such she say's, "No thank you but I'll take some chocolate". I feel like I'm a deal maker. "Eat your carrots and you can have a piece of chocolate."

Today we had fun doing the old preschool activity of learning about our senses. I placed all sorts of items on a tray (and of course snuck tons of veggies in the mix). She was blindfolded and had to use her sense of touch, smell and taste to guess what the item was. She described if it was cold or hot; salty, sweet or sour, etc. I got the biggest smiles when she discovered what she was eating and exclaimed, "It's a carrot, mmm, crunchy and sweet." I put vinegar in a dish too just for it's strong aroma. It was fun playing scientist and a fun twist to learn and eat healthy. Mission accomplished!

A little hummingbird we spotted resting on this fence. Adrian and Butterfly girl were able to get very close to observe. We watched it move up and down and were fascinated by it's rapid fluttering wings. We improvised a feeder by putting sugar water (real sugar as alternatives are toxic) in a cup and hollowing out a small hole in the side.

Hummingbirds message is joy. What a great Father's day gift to receive this personal visit.

Meet Arthur

This is Arthur. He is a retired Actor who is now a crosswalk person for the private school next door. Arthur cares about people's safety and also about sharing smiles. He loves to tell a quick story about something he feels a parent or child would relate too. We see Arthur on our own family walks. He eagerly waits for us with his stop sign in hand and a genuine interest in how our day is going. In under two minutes, this man has an ability to make you stop, smile and be in the moment. He is a compassionate soul with a lot of love and humor to share.

Butterfly Girl adores Arthur. During school season, we receive requests to take a walk and visit him on our street corner. A few weeks ago it was raining and Butterfly became so concerned for Arthur, she insisted we make him homemade chocolate chip cookies and a big thank you card for his sacrifice in keeping people safe. We put on our special rain gear and Butterfly was able to touch Arthur back the way he does for everyone. Both Arthur and Butterfly take moments to pause in their day and take interest in the other person. I have to admit they do teach me through their simple gestures, words and actions. It has shown me that soul connections don't have boundaries. Their friendship reminds me that sometimes it only takes a little pause to make someone else smile.

School is out for the summer. Arthur will enjoy his wife, German Shepherd puppy and kitty's company for the summer. Butterfly comments how she misses him when we walk and he's not there. We hope he enjoys the long vacation and look forward to seeing him again in September.

Magical Sweet Dreams...

Today I woke up Butterfly Girl from her nap and asked if she slept well. Her response was that she dreamt of 'The God'! She said God was talking to all the fairies and everyone could hear. I asked her what God was saying and she replied that Santa and the puppies all belong. Then she asked if she could paint a frog. :)

Adrian is playing a Cop in The Gardener which is currently filming. He worked through the night hours this weekend racing around in cop cars (doing his own stunt driving). Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz has traded vampires and werewolves for a small drama about an undocumented Mexican landscaper that was a struggle to finance.

Weitz starts shooting April in East Los Angeles. He has cast Demian Bichir—best known for Weeds and playing Castro in Che—for the title character, a man who drives from East L.A. to manicure the lawns of the upscale, while trying to keep his son away from gangs and immigration agents. Newcomer Jose Julian will play the teen.

Twilight-maker Summit acquired domestic distribution and began selling offshore territories at Berlin. Summit is only covering part of the $10 million budget in the WME-packaged film, though. I’m told Weitz put up some of his own money. The rest came from Lime Orchard, the monied production company formed by actress Jami Gertz and former ICM agent Stacey Lubliner.

They’ve become producers along with Christian McLaughlin and Paul Witt. Weitz, the grandson of agent Paul Kohner and Mexican-born 30s movie star Lupita Tovar, sparked to a film that is tiny by Twilight standards, and tackles cultural and immigration issues facing an ethnic group largely ignored by Hollywood.

“It’s about an undocumented immigrant who gets the chance to buy a truck and equipment to raise his family out of poverty, and how things go right and wrong from there,” Weitz told me. “It is an Italian neo-realist movie with a contemporary feel. I wanted to return to making films with no green screen required, not that there's anything wrong with those.”

Gertz and Lubliner got involved after Weitz mentioned the script at the New Moonpremiere. “I sat there weeping at the hair salon as I read it,” Gertz said. “Supporting a project like this is the kind of stuff we want to be doing, and we were glad to supply the money to get a stalled train moving.”

Insiders said Weitz won’t return for the Twilight finale, and that Summit is already taking aim at another high-end director. Weitz said he didn’t choose The Gardener over Twilight—the latter is still being written—but admits that New Moon totally removed the lingering bitter taste in his mouth from The Golden Compass.

Fun Nature Project Tutorial

1.) Family walks together make great bonding time.

2.) Nature is full of color and textures with learning opportunities.

3.) You can use whatever you find or have to make project.

4.) Child is filled with pride as everyone gathers for meals to admire their ART!

(Note: Adrian shook the items out to make sure we weren't bringing in little bug friends. Just in case I sprayed them heavily with homemade essential oil Citronella Java)

Hold piece of scrap fabric over center for 5 seconds

Arrange leaves and glue in place. Stack heavy items encourage drying flat.

Knitting Together for Kelly

We were so lucky to spend a day with our close friends. We've known Michael and Isabelle almost since we moved to California. They have been like family to us. Our dogs introduced us in the park one afternoon and instantly we found many things in common. We each have a spoiled Labrador Retriever; Adrian and Michael grew up from the same small town in Florida; we've all lived in NY; Michael, Adrian and I are all in the entertainment industry; Michael and I each have a sibling in Music and both live in Nashville; we were married around the same time and even went through pregnancy together. Our kids were born just five days apart!!! The list goes on an on. Usually we alternate holidays and one family travels while the other dog sits. We love getting together for good food (they are amazing cooks), good wine (Isabelle is from France) and lots of laughs. We love Michael, Isabelle and (to protect the privacy of his real name) 'Lil Bear'. Thank you for sharing such a peaceful day together at the beach!

Renaissance Fair

This weekend we went to a Renaissance Fair at a local Waldorf school we're considering. It was a beautiful day and our little girl loved doing the painting crafts. We ate delicious, healthy food homemade by Waldorf parents. I had a Tarot reading. They even had a cute elderly woman spinning wool! I LOVE the art of transforming one thing to another. Someday I'd love to learn to spin my own wool! Heck if we're putting it out there I'd love to raise the sheep or llama it came from too. Butterfly girl won a cool prize (magic fairy) from a game she played. It was intimate and uncrowded; mostly people who attended the school. The teachers and many of the kids wore costumes. I bought some adorable angel candles made of beeswax for Butterfly girl and a friend's little guy. For my Mom: Sue Ann Curran

You are truly the most beautiful WOMAN I have ever known and I get the honor and privilege of calling you Mom. You're OUR best friend, the one who I turn to for advice or encouragement. You're the one who knows what I need sometimes before I do. You figured out how to tame my drama. You DON'T know what it's like to be selfish.

A few days after you turned 21, I made you a Mother for the first time. I was watching you and Dad from the sparkle energy field and picked YOU out of all the possible choices to be my Mom. I knew you were the best for me.

You nursed us and stayed at home and always knew what we were up to. You played with us and fostered our passions by making sure we had access to our individual interests. You made the best playhouses out of raked leaves or shoveled snow. You sewed special matching Mommy & Me dresses.

You made amazing homemade breakfast, lunch and every night made sure we were all present together to bond during the balanced super you prepared. You refused to buy us sugared cereals... (unless of course we were camping). You taught me how to make chocolate chip cookies and brownies from scratch!

You made sure we grew in FAITH of a Higher Power and didn't judge or get caught up if it wasn't exactly the same religion we were raised with. (What, Tarot cards are totally spiritual!) You shared your secrets of high self esteem by showing us how to be confident, grateful, compassionate, humanitarian, and conscientious of others.

You broadened our horizons by inviting other children from different cultures to live with us for summers or a school year and form a big happy family. You volunteered at church, school, and any activity we were involved in. You taught us about community service through your PTA, American Red Cross and EMT roles. You showed us how to be kind to the elderly by bringing us to old (and I mean OLD) friends homes for visits and chores. (Remember when we painted Don's house for him???) You brought us to the nursing home or hospital to cheer up someone's day.

You helped us write thank you notes. You made a pretend birthday party for my cabbage patch kid after my third sibling was born. You even sewed clothes and gave me one of Jennie's diapers for the doll; and made a cake! Your voice is comforting to me, I remember hearing you sing in weddings and to your children.

You were super woman when I had my spinal surgeries. I'll never comprehend how you managed to juggle four kids and keep sane while constantly being there to take care of me in the hospital. You're organization skills and ability to multi-task are super human. You've taught us that attitude and perception are something we should learn to program positively. You taught us to take responsibility for ourselves. You demonstrated that failures are actually learning opportunities and took our fear out of trying something new. You were firm when it came to lessons because you saw and nurtured our potentials.

Ahh, just remembering the poem you wrote and read to my 8th grade graduating class. And the speech you wrote (oops, helped) by underlining important points to stress when I became class President. (Remember the rehearsals in the kitchen?)

You SURVIVED my TEEN years! (yikes)

You always seem to have so much youthful energy. You're easy to crack up and your laugh is contagious!!! You are the most giving and empathetic soul. You showed us that loving relationships are sacred but take work. Happy 36 year Anniversary, May 4th! You are hot, fun, stylish and pretty, all my friends always thought so too.

You recognize that you were our tour guide in life and don't own us. You knew just when to let go as we grew up and shift from Mom to Friend (in some cases back to Mom depending on the situation). You've always lead through your example and showed us how to be independent and still be a lady. You always wear a smile on your face and have an open spirit with tremendous personality.

Once we were grown, you went back to work and succeeded beyond anyone's expectation in your career. You "retired" showing us a strong work ethic and personal victory is possibly regardless of when you start. Priorities! You rearranged your flight plans last minute, flew out with NO sleep for days and were the most awesome coach during my daughter's birth. You said you wouldn't miss it for the world. You even cut her umbilical cord! You taught me how to nurse my babe and took care of me while I learned how to be a new Mommy. You were the first human to teach us UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

Mom, wish I could be there to give you a big hug and share some outrageous laughs about stuff only we think is hysterical (the spicy dip). You are my role model and have taught me how to be a Mommy. We are blessed! Thank you and Happy Mother's Day! I love you more than chocolate!!!

Children's multivitamin and multimineral

I've been meaning to blog about this for some time as we Mom's and Dad's like to share information through each other's effort. I should also note that I am in no way affiliated with any sales from this product or receive any incentive benefit by sharing or writing about it on my blog. :)

In my search to find a quality children's multivitamin and multimineral, I was horrified to learn so many on the market contain tar or glue to hold the substance together. I also learned that we only absorb a small amount of nutrition from the pill form (the remaining is passed through our system). When I came across the vitamin line below, I brought it to our Pediatrician for research and a professional opinion. Our Doctor was so impressed he recommended us starting Butterfly Girl early (18 mos.) and only giving her a half dose until she turned two. She's been enthusiastically taking them ever since. Have you ever felt frustrated about bills or wanting something and stressed over how to attract it into your life? We've all thought I'd be truly happy if I had (fill in the blank). We wish we'd win the lottery or get a raise or even a job. Sometimes we pray or do good things in hopes that we'll be recognized and rewarded. God, the Source, Buddha, Krishna, Mother Earth, the Light, the Way, Universe, whatever Higher Power we believe in or choose to call the energy already knows what we've been asking for and still we ask over and over and over again. It gets to a point where it's a broken record going off in our brains always there reminding us we are smaller than what we'd like. It reinforces the message we are not enough. But we are...

My own spiritual life is like the tides ebb and flow. I'm really conscious at times and get caught up with life in others. All great relationships take work to achieve trust. I've personally been studying Dr. Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Deepak Chopra and other spiritual leaders for many years. I find great inspiration with their words and often feel almost high like I get it and then... WHAM, I am tested and fall flat on my bootie. Life is all about lessons and getting back on the saddle is an important virtue.

I was blessed to have an extremely positive and healthy upbringing with two happy parents and 3 siblings in a home filled with love. However, we each interpret our experiences uniquely and I often find myself in spiritual work going back and changing my perspective about things my immature mind created. Meditation has taught me to train myself to witness my thoughts without so much judgement and allow them to pass peacefully without attachment. PaaaLease, I would still like a brand new huge home with tons of land, a new car and an Academy Award winning acting career but training myself to be present and open allows me to be conscious of my current blessings with less pressure on a time frame of manifestation.

Two weeks ago at my church there was a powerful speaker who's message was Getting in the Flow of the Infinite. She used some unique examples to demonstrate money. She told us God already knows what we want and if we keep wishing and hoping it will come we keep telling the Source we're waiting, and that is what we get... more waiting, etc. She suggested rather to get into the flow of connecting and feeling and sensing God power all around us in the moment instead and we'd be rewarded with manifestations recognized. We already know this from Wayne and Louise, etc. but the way she delivered the message seemed to hit home.

Our weekly affirmation was "I think the kind of thoughts and feel the kind of feelings that manifest greater good, prosperity, and abundance in my life." and also... "Divine Love, through me, blesses and multiplies all that I have, all that I give, and all that I receive."

***(Saying a bunch of positive affirmations without intention and plugging in is not very effective. When you say an affirmation, the feeling must be aligned with connection to your own Soul and God energy.)

She told us our wishes, hopes and dreams have been heard and they are kind of like in a bank account for us to tap into once we get into the flow. She told us to stop narrow thinking about God and money as to where it would come from, etc. and open up.

This months study group (which I couldn't join due to Adrian working and not wanting to leave Butterfly) was from our book-of-the-month club called Spiritual Economics by Eric Butterworth.

Sometimes we get so much information on all this spiritual stuff that it feels overwhelming. Going back to basics can help to remember to keep it simple.

Here is a challenge for you today: find things in each moment to really connect, pause and bless. If your child makes you laugh, let yourself go and completely laugh. When you hold your child, try to explain what the feeling is like to yourself. Ask your babe if he/she feels it too? Breath your child in, what does he or she smell like? How does this smell make you feel? Sing your children a song about Mommy and their love. If you see a pretty plant, stare deeply at it and connect with it's energy. When your friend or significant other is talking, really look deeply in their eyes and listen. Get overwhelmed with good feelings. Open yourself up to being present today even if it means you won't accomplish something you thought you had to do. Make an effort a few times throughout the day to stop and check in with yourself. A few deep breaths. If you feel stuck, ask where it is coming from and excavate through your experiences so you can let the thoughts just pass through and heal. Or maybe you will see the lesson of old pain and why you're stuck will be revealed and enlightened from your present maturity. And remember, you are enough, you are worth it and you are VERY loved. You will create special moments that help you to discover who you really are and that we are all truly ONE beating heart with many different tones coming together to make music in our Universe. May you open yourself up to receive the prosperity abundance, loving relationships, health, and dreams to align yourself with your Highest Purpose. Blessings and Namaste!

Grateful Saturday...

How lucky I am!!! Today the sun is shining, skies are blue, breeze is gorgeous... AHHH, OHM, thank you, THANK YOU! It was a busy week of non-stop action and little relaxation. I try to make time for meditation each night before bed. As a busy Mom, I need to check in to find out where I am so I don't go crazy from the multi-tasking madness. I need to acknowledge my blessings and sort my thoughts. I have to clear the space in my head and allow thoughts to flow through without attachment. Somewhere in this stillness I find out where I am, in the present, connected. Reflection and Manifestation seem to be where my mind prefers to journey. I remind myself to be present in the moment and move out of the busy pace of thoughts.

Yesterday morning I received breakfast in bed for the first time and I'm still smiling. Butterfly girl likes to get out of her toddler bed and join us in ours early in the morning. She usually snuggles up and falls back asleep. Yesterday I opened my eyes to see a HUGE smile and bright eyes. She proudly brought me breakfast in bed (a huge cookie) and asked if I would like to play with her. A little earlier than I prefer to get up but I was so excited to join the ranks of Mother's before me whom also received this special privilege.

In this moment I am grateful for: my sweet Butterfly girl (how did I get so lucky to be her Mama?), my ROMANTIC and devoted husband, the rich German Chocolate Cake my neighbor brought me, my adorable doggies, my strong siblings, youthful parents, the inspiration and support from my girlfriends, perfect weather, the work I am able to be involved in, the healthy baby my Friend/Sister-in-law is carrying, Saturday's, creativity, giggles, hope and the name I get to respond to... Mom.

Today is Saturday, a day of reconnection and balance. Today it is okay to play, clean, exercise, create, laugh, dance, sing, cook, answer emails and voicemail if I'm in the mood, work, try something new and relax. Today is my favorite day of the week, no errands to run or business to rush. The spirit and energy around on Saturday is fun. THANK YOU!

Healthy Homemade Face Mask

This mask works well for all skin types but is especially helpful for healing old scars. Your skin will be be grateful for the natural antibacterial effects and added moisture. It creates a thin consistency and goes on almost clear. You can cover and refrigerate leftovers for about a week.

Ingredients:
2 tbsp honey
4 tsp lemon juice
3 tsp Greek yogurt
2 tsp Green or Chamomile tea
1 tsp milk
1 egg white
2 drops Tea Tree essential oil

Directions:
1.) Mix together all ingredients either in a bowl or blender until paste consistency.
2.) Apply and let dry for 10-20 minutes, rinse and pat dry.
3.) Drink remaining tea and enjoy your new fresh face. (If you wear your mask in the morning use Green Tea for the extra energy, if evening use Chamomile for relaxation).

Little Bear and Butterfly Girl

This morning my daughter has a friend over (we'll call him Little Bear) and our home is filled with giggles and squeals! They kiddos are 5 days apart and have been close buddies since they were born. His Mommy and I would meet for pregnancy craving delights and laugh our hormones away. I remember the pre-kid days when we fussed over our doggie children together and now the small humans are 3 years old already. Time certainly flies. The kids are so cute my cheeks hurt from grinning at them. I'm off to make their lunches, then the doggie lunches and get ready for a fashion show photo shoot this afternoon. I'm so lucky to have an awesome husband who helps me be a S.A.H.M (stay at home Mom) and still have the freedom to express my own creativity through my work. Adrian will be on his own with 2 three year olds and two dogs for a few hours today. Tonight, we'll all make dinner together and watch a movie. Ahhh, don't you just love Saturdays? Hope yours is amazing too.

Went to the local (took an hour and a half one way) Maruaki store for this cute little Bento box with accessories. My husband and I decided to do a detox, something we should do twice a year; it's been a few years since my last serious one. I previously detoxed to flush out toxicity and prepare my body for getting pregnant. It worked on the first try! We started our current detox with a fresh coconut, cut off the top, popped a straw in and drink... delicious! Next we drank 32 oz each of sea salt without iodine, yikes. Now we're drinking fresh raw cane juice (purchased at our local farmers market today) mixed with fresh squeezed lemon juice, cayenne pepper and cloves. Here is the link We were planning on only doing this for today as a one day fast but may continue longer. The results are pretty immediate to say the least! Feeling a little calm already from lack of food but our bodies will appreciate a flush. Never did this kind before, the juice is surprisingly quite tasty.

A fun little inexpensive play sweater made with love for Butterfly from Mama. I enjoy meditating or sending positive messages or energy with the intention focused on whom the project is for. What joy to think of my little one and reflect on our day focusing energy on her continued blessings. She enjoyed shopping for and picking out the yarn she wanted for her sweater. She also learns the value of patience as she inspects my work from the evening before. Two year old's are very complimentary so it's not bad for the old Mama EGO to hear her praise and enthusiasm for my very beginner knitting talent. Wow, can't believe it's been over two weeks since my last post. Been really busy with my photography and editing all night. jillportrait.com Since it is a holiday weekend I'm looking forward to lots of cleaning and organizing, meal planning, playing with little Butterfly girl, and crafting. The Los Angeles fires have made the air quality too yucky to play outside. We ended up going to Toys R' Us for exercise up and down the aisles and came home with a few new toys. This pink princess kitchen talks and has been keeping her entertained inside until it's safe to go back out! :)

I, like most parents like to give my child the freedom to run around and explore this beautiful Universe. However, I do realize how precious my toddler is and that she can slip away in an instant. I try to be sensible without teaching her to be fearful of her surroundings. Sister's Wedding

My beautiful sister Jamie married her handsome husband Captain CJ last Saturday. The day was filled with emotion, love and magical energy. We even had a rainbow! I'm still not recovered from all the happy tears and joy we all experienced. I love my new brother and am extremely proud of this adorable couple. Ahhhh, bliss! Now that CJ has completed his Iraq duty in the Marines and Jamie earned her Masters degree I'm ready for some nephews or nieces!!!

Homemade Bath Salts Gift

Homemade Bath Salt Recipe

2 cups sea salt

2 cups baking soda

2 cups Epsom salts

2 tsp. essential oil (you can use more than one for example Lavender and Rosemary)

This recipe can be divided into small jars personally decorated by you.

Wrapped Chicken Stuffed with Cheese

Ingredients:

10 slices bacon

6 ounces cream cheese, softened

2 slices Swiss Cheese torn in pieces

4 green onions, chopped

2 Tbsp. chopped red bell pepper

1-2 tsp. Adobo (found in Spanish section)

1/2 tsp. ground pepper

4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves

Directions:

1.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a small baking dish with olive oil.

2.) Cook bacon on low until tender and soft. (I prefer under the broiler). Remove and pat dry with paper towel; set aside.

3.) Stir together cream cheese, Swiss cheese, green onions, bell pepper, Adobo, and pepper in a bowl until combined. Spread mixture evenly on chicken breasts. Fold breasts in half and wrap 2 slices of bacon. (Bacon can be exchanged for thin sliced ham) Secure with toothpicks as needed. Place in baking dish.

4.) Bake in oven about 35 minutes. Remove toothpicks and eat.

Alternative Household Cleaners and Recipes

Saturday is a good day for deep cleaning. I don't like using harsh, toxic chemicals with my human toddler and puppy children following me around. Here are a few alternative ingredients that allow you to clean safely with little fingers and paws present...

Ingredients:

Baking Soda

Essential Eucalyptus Oil

Essential Lemon Oil (or whatever scent you love)

White Vinegar

Borax

Liquid soap (castile, peppermint)

Corn Starch

Olive Oil

Water

Empty Spray bottle

In an Aromatherapy Diffuser, mix water with a few drops of (your choice) Eucalyptus Oil for a fresh, clean and motivating environment to work in.

Do a little cleaning dance, and begin with the bathrooms.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner Recipe:

Sprinkle generous amounts of baking soda in your toilets and cover with white vinegar and a dash of essential oil of your choice. Let sit and...

Whip up a great general household cleaner recipe... grab an empty spray bottle pour in 1/2 c. borax, either a few (5-10) drops of essential lemon oil or lemon juice or squeeze lemon, or grapefruit, or orange (whatever is on hand), 2 tsp. liquid soap, 1/2 c. vinegar, 1/2 c. baking soda, 4c. warm water and gently shake.

Now go back to toilet and use brush to scrub a sparkly clean bowl and flush.

With your homemade cleaning spray go to town saturating entire shower, ceiling, walls, counter tops, anything that needs a good wipe down. Move to kitchen and use on cupboards, counters, sinks, etc.

Naturally Unclog Drain Recipe:

Cover drain with baking soda, pour white vinegar, let sit several minutes and flush with hot water.

Oven Grease Cleaner Recipe:

Make paste with baking soda and water with some fresh squeezed lemon. Let soak in for a few minutes and scrub with sponge. Rinse away grease!

Dusting Furniture Polish Recipe:

Mix 1 part lemon juice and 2 parts olive oil in spray bottle. With soft cloth rub in wood let set for a while before wiping off.

Window Cleaner Recipe:

In an empt spray bottle mix equal parts white vinegar and water or 1/3 borax and 2/3 warm water. Wipe clean with recycled newspaper for streak-free shine.

Random ideas:

Baking soda makes a terrific paste, salt or sugar helps gently scrub too.

Corn Starch works great to lift fresh stains from carpet. Just sprinkle and let dry then vacuum up.

Baking soda is also a great teeth whitener just don't swallow. For a minty fresh mouth mix some Essential Tea Tree Oil with water and swish around, be sure not to swallow!

Essential Eucalyptus Oil soaked cotton balls or washcloth will rub out stains, safe on white fabric too. Leaves a great fresh scent.

For clean humidifiers, add white vinegar and leave on during day. Rinse well and fill with fresh water and a drop or two of Eucalyptus Oil. (I'm kind of obsessed with the stuff).

For fresh and clean garbage disposals, throw in a bit of ice and lemon, orange or grapefruit peels and grind.

Ground coffee right out of the bag, grinder, or jar is a terrific odor eliminator and leaves a delicious scent. Just put some ground coffee in a bowl and set out. You can sprinkle on rugs too but careful to vacuum up soon so it won't stain carpet. Put some ground coffee in a glass and leave in your car, I like French Vanilla flavor.

Leaving a small glass of white vinegar out is another way to absorb yucky odor, great for kitchen after cooking fish.

We will ask for a pledge of handmade knit or crochet blankets for both adults, baby and children. Sunday Spa Day

Ready for a relaxing evening after a holiday weekend featuring some perfect Essential Oils?

First, make a pot of strong Chamomile Tea and enjoy as many cups as your heart desires during our nurturing thy self night...

A delightful homemade Cuticle Oil recipe:

1-2 Tbsp Coconut oil

1/2 tsp Cocoa butter

5 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil

2 drops of Cypress Essential Oil

Combine the Coconut oil and Cocoa butter in a saucepan and warm over very low heat stirring constantly. Remove from heat let it cool a bit before adding the Essential Oils, stir again. Store in a clean container with a lid, brown glass jars always work well for me.

How about a nice Epsom Salt Soak for the feet. Maybe a body bath with a few drops of Tea Tree Oil, Lavender Oil, Rosemary Oil and 5 drops of Eucalyptus Oil.

Take a wash cloth and press to eyebrows, now pluck away the naughty little strays that don't belong. Sometimes creating a new eyebrow shape can be fun too.

Move on to a manicure/pedicure. Moisturize body with your favorite lotion. Add a few drops of Tea Tree Oil or Rosemary Oil to your boars bristle brush and comb away.

Light Lavender Perfume Recipe

This is light enough to sleep in but a special treat to help you relax.

1 cup of fresh herb lavender flowers

1 cup vodka (to preserve)

1 cup distilled water

Pour enough vodka to cover lavender flowers. Allow to steep for two weeks. Strain and add distilled water. Store in dark brown glass bottle away from heat or light. (Amber, brown glass bottles can be found on amazon.com, even Target.com sells them as aromatherapy glass bottles).

Now you are relaxed and refreshed to start your week. Good night and sleep well.

Yummy Pasta

Pasta experiment success! Grabbed some olive oil and sauteed garlic and mushrooms, added Chardonnay wine, butter, cream, whatever seasonings felt like shakin', sqeezed a lemon, dash of sesame oil, etc. Steamed some fresh asparagas, then threw that into the mix. Sliced fresh Roma tomatoes, and tossed entire mix together with cooked angel hair pasta. Washed and rinsed fresh basil leaves from my plant, tore them into pieces stirred in and a generous plop of Gorgonzola cheese. Served on plate with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Result... Fabulous!

Baby and Toddler Tantrums

My friend's baby is several months younger than my toddler and recently surprised her Mother with a tantrum. Both this Mom and myself loosely practice Dr. Sear's method of Attachment parenting style. My friend asked if I had any advice. This was my response...

Um tantrums??? My only advice is I have no idea... I was in the same boat last week after flying across the country. My precious Lamb flew with me all day arriving several hours past her bedtime. Then we had an action-packed trip with no naps. Five days later we were leaving in the middle of the night to get on a plane back home. We had a 3 1/2 hour lay over and 3 hour time change to adjust to. I was so impressed with how well she flew and went with the flow. The following day after our trip a full blow tantrum occurred during a quick Target shopping outing. Ahhhhhhhh!

I'm really convinced the "T" word happens during times of major schedule change, any change in general and lack of sleep. If you don't pull your hair out and get drunk or high while smoking a cigarette on a stripper pole or any other form of rebellious escape, then it's best to remember our baby's are VERY FREAKIN' HIGH NEED since WE chose to attach parent and "spoil" them like a little royalty... they expect us to soothe, hold them close, nurture, etc. It's not personal and they aren't going to grow up to be disrespectful, entitled brats. They just don't know how to communicate that they are tired or experiencing anxiety. I try to remember when I drink coffee too late in the day and can't sleep that night but am really tired, tossing and turning I'm frustrated. Don't have the energy in these times to get up and do something productive but can't calm my mind down enough to fall asleep either. Of course I don't kick and scream as loud as I can begging anyone I see to make me feel better, but it'd be nice if that was an option. Since your baby is adjusting to many changes that are probably overwhelming for her right now, just try to have a sense of humor and patience to know once you are back in your routine she will be the sweet little princess you know is your daughter. Once I "recover" from my shock that my own flesh and blood, the child I carried has acted out in strange, foreign, odd, bizarre, 2 year old behavior, I realize that I am glad in a weird way that she feels comfortable to get it out and not suppress her feelings. I also look at it as a warning that I need to make some adjustments in her schedule and allow a few days or week, whatever to bond even closer to make her feel secure. Last night for example, I was knitting by nightlight in her room until she fell asleep. She ended up waking up in the middle of the night and sleeping with me but the reward this morning was worth it. She looked at me so grateful and for about a half hour or so, we just smiled and cuddled without saying a word. Then finally she pronounced, "Mommy, I want to play". Hang in there, your little monster will be back to ANGEL in no time. Get rest when you can so you have the energy to give compassion. Don't you think it would be cool if Mommy's could put themselves in time-out more often? Good Luck!

Homemade Baby Wipe Recipe

Okay, I have to admit I used Pampers Baby Fresh Wipes when Butterfly was still in diapers. I do like to have wipes on hand and use them to wipe the dogs paws, human and people faces, high chair table top, wiping pen or crayon off table, etc. I love these recipes my friend shared with me recently since they are safe for people and pets! They are great to keep on hand in a zip lock bag for car rides too. A spay bottle is great too! Here are some homemade baby wipes recipes:

Baby Wash Recipe #1

2 TBSP Baby Wash (choose a natural wash!)
2 TBSP Olive Oil
2 Cups water
Mix well in a spray bottle or your wipes box. Spritz on wipe before using if in spray bottle. Swish solution around over wipes if using a wipes box.

Baby Wash Recipe #2

2 TBSP Baby Wash
2 TBSP Olive Oil or 1 TBSP Calendula Oil
2 Drops Tea Tree Oil
2 Cups Water
Mix well in a spray bottle or your wipes box. Spritz on wipe before using if in spray bottle. Swish solution around over wipes if using a wipes box. Tea Tree Oil has lovely disinfectant properties along with its wonderful, clean smell.

Aloe Vera Recipe

1/4 Cup Aloe Vera Gel
2 Drops Tea Tree Oil
2 Cups Hot Water
Stir or shake until this recipe is well mixed. Don't use until the mixture cools. Spritz on wipe before using if in spray bottle. Swish solution around over wipes if using a wipes box.

Vitamin E and Essential Oils Recipe

2 Drops Tea Tree Oil
2 Drops Lavender Oil (Please be sure to use only pure essential oils - don't use synthetic oils.)
2 Drops Chamomile Oil
2 Cups Water
1 Vitamin E Cap
Cut open vitamin E caplet and squeeze into the water, and add essential oil drops. Mix well in a spray bottle or your wipes box. Spritz on wipe before using if in spray bottle. Swish solution around over wipes if using a wipes box

Everyday Essentials

Essential Oils make me happy! I love that burning them for aromatherapy purposes actually cleans the air rather than pollute it like other scented oils. There are many positive uses from medicinal, cleaning, mood enhancing aromatherapy and massage spa treatments.

I'll regularly post everyday uses for you and your family to try under Everyday Essentials. Enjoy!

Nourishing Banana Conditioner

1 cup hot strong chamomile tea

1 ripe banana

10 drops Rosemary Essential Oil

5 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil

2 Tbsp. coconut oil

1 Tbsp. honey

Combine all ingredients in a blender and apply to damp hair. You can cover with a cap or warm towel and leave on while you relax in the bath or do your laundry, then rinse. Note: coconut oil leaves hair beautiful, healthy and shiny. If your hair is too oily, blot a bit of powder at roots.

Homemade Laundry Sheets

Take a small piece of flannel and put a few drops of Essential Oil of your choice such as Lavender. Throw in dryer with clothes for natural, Divine scented clothes!

Homemade Croutons...

If you're ready for a delicious salad and realize you're out of croutons, here's a great recipe...

Take any bread, I used left over French bread. Cut into pieces.

In a bowl, make your seasoning. You can combine butter and Italian or Caesar salad dressing.

Since I only had creamy Caesar on hand, I made my own. Combined melted butter with olive oil, wine vinegar, fresh squeezed lemon, Parmesan and Romano cheese, a dash of onion powder, a sprinkle of garlic powder, a tiny season salt, and mixed all ingredients together in a bowl.

Add the bread pieces and mix lightly.

Bake on 250 for 25 minutes on a cookie tray or lightly broil for crispy croutons! Delicious!

Tasty Tomato Sauce

This delicious homemade sauce is for those open to creative cooking. It is yummy with pasta and also outrageously scrumptious with fresh bread as a dipping sauce. A nice bottle of good red wine really compliments the taste.

Ingredients:

1.) Tomato Puree (You may either make your own in the blender with fresh tomatoes and water until you have a fine pure or use cans if you’re short on time)
2.) Fresh Garlic
3.) Olive Oil
4.) Fresh Basil
5.) Cinnamon
6.) Salt
7.) Sugar
8.) Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
9.) Onion Powder
10.) Fresh Ground Pepper
11.) Chile Powder

Sauté fresh Garlic in a sauce pan with olive oil until golden brown. Slowly pour in Tomato Puree and simmer. Add the rest of the ingredients to taste, a few pinches here and there. As you cook the sauce will decrease but flavor will be outstanding. This sauce freezes well; I usually make a large batch and freeze some portions to have on hand for a quick easy meal. Please feel free to comment if you try this and share secret ingredients that you may add to enhance flavor.

Note: If you don’t have fresh garlic or olive oil on hand start from the puree and add garlic powder or Adobo spice. Bon Appétit’

If you want to give your little one a special treat when serving pancakes; just pour a large circle of pancake batter in the center of your cooking pan and make 2 smaller circles on the side... voila' Mickey Mouse Pancakes! Of course you can add sliced bananas, blueberries and strawberries to make a face and sneak in some healthy flavor.

Thank you all for participating in my May give away. I've had great comments from all of you and love all the positive support in blog-land. I tried to take a video of Butterfly picking one of the folded up pieces of paper that each contained an entry out of her musical drum toy, however it was a bit close to bed time and she was a tiny bit cranky. This gal is from Canada so hopefully this Fall she'll enjoy a handmade scarf filled with great intentions and made with love. Butterfly's Birthday Gift

King Daddy loved his adorable crafted gift from Butterfly. She was so excited to give him the Popsicle stick monkey face and birthday card she made. As you can see, she helped frost her Dad's cupcakes! Yummy! Couldn't resist licking the sprinkles off a few and re-frosting them. We'll make another cake for company later, ha!
